HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football, volleyball, soccer, cross country, golf, tennis and softball teams will all be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
The reigning Southland Conference champion Southeastern football team (0-5, 0-1 SLC) will be back on the road after two straight home contests. The Lions will travel to face No. 8/9 UIW Saturday at 4 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
The reigning Southland Conference tournament champion SLU volleyball team (14-4, 5-1 SLC) will look to extend its current eight-match winning streak with a pair of Southland Conference contests this week in the Pride Roofing University Center. The Lady Lions welcome HCU to town for a rematch of the 2022 SLC Tournament final Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
In conjunction with Thursday’s match, Southeastern Athletics will host the annual “Dig the Lions” promotion, as the first 250 Southeastern students will receive a free shirt. SLU invites all Hammond community members and volleyball campers to come out to Saturday’s noon match versus McNeese.
The Lady Lion soccer team (3-7, 1-2 SLC) will hit the road for a pair of SLC matches. SLU starts the trip Friday with a 7 p.m. match at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Southeastern closes the Texas swing with a 2 p.m. match at UIW Sunday.
The Southeastern men’s and women’s cross country teams will host the Lion Up Invitational Saturday at the Covey Rise Lodge in Husser, Louisiana. The men’s race is set for 8 a.m. with the women’s race following at 8:30 a.m.
The SLU golf team will compete in its third tournament of the fall this week. The Lions will head to Jonesboro, Arkansas to compete in the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday.
The Lion tennis team will also play in its third event of the fall this week. Southeastern will be in Pensacola, Florida Friday and Saturday to compete in the UWF Fall Invitational.
The Southeastern softball team will continue its fall exhibition schedule this week with a pair of 10-inning scrimmages at North Oak Park. The Lady Lions welcome Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Wednesday and East Central Community College Friday for 5 p.m. exhibition contests.

All of this week’s football, volleyball and soccer action will be televised on ESPN+. The Southeastern football game at UIW can be heard on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM. Both volleyball matches can also be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM.
The 2023 season of Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo continues Monday at 7 p.m. at Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux (305 CM Fagan Dr.). The weekly show will air each Monday during the football season on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM. Mannino’s Pharmacy will be featured as Monday’s Community Spotlight guest.
