Jordan Smith-Kenning and Taryn Spikes-Webb join Dr. Amber Narro discuss STEM programs in the Northshore area.
00:00:00.080 –> 00:00:10.400
Good day. This is Emeraero on ninety point nine FM, the lion. I am here with the new rye lions roundtable. I’ve got two very good friends with me. First of all, I have my friend Jordan Smith Kenning.
00:00:10.400 –> 00:00:20.255
She is with North Shore, Southeastern’s North Shore STEM. Sorry. Say the whole the whole name. Right? Then I’ve also got Taryn.
00:00:20.255 –> 00:00:23.615
And, Taryn, give me your last name. We have just met. Yes.
00:00:23.615 –> 00:00:30.750
My name is Taryn Spikes Webb, and I’m representing North Shore Technical Community College. I am the outreach program manager there.
00:00:30.910 –> 00:00:46.955
Fantastic to meet you. Fantastic to meet you. So you are North Shore Technical Community College. We’ve got neighbors all over the place with this. Lots of parishes represented here, and you’re you’re kinda going across the whole gambit and have really kinda built this from the ground up, Jordan tells me.
00:00:46.955 –> 00:00:49.595
Yes? Mhmm. Yes. Very good. Alright.
00:00:49.595 –> 00:01:32.180
Well, Jordan, I’m gonna get you to brag on her for a second because she is she’s not going to. So I’m gonna make sure that that that we talk about Terren for just a second, give her the credit that’s due. Terren, we’ve I’ve I’ve spoken to Jordan on on my show with North Shore Broadcasting, and she’s here with me now at KSLU as we’ve moved the show back to our home here at Southeastern. And Jordan is with North Shore with Southeastern’s North Shore STEM, big long name, but that means that that this STEM organization is here in this area, but it represents lots of so give me the first, let’s give me the skinny on what this project is, Jordan, and then we’re gonna brag on Terren a little bit. And then I’m gonna ask her questions about her program Yeah.
00:01:32.180 –> 00:01:33.940
Because we wanna talk about how great she is first.
00:01:34.185 –> 00:01:51.610
Yeah. So we are, Southeastern North Shore STEM Center is actually region nine of the LIS STEM network. So we’re one of nine STEM centers in the entire state. So we represent Washington, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Livingston, and St. Helena Parishes, so literally the entire North Shore.
00:01:51.690 –> 00:01:58.250
Wonderful. Yeah. So, and and by represent, what does that mean? What do you do? So What is the STEM thing?
00:01:58.250 –> 00:02:28.310
So my job as the STEM director is to sort of connect the dots. So really concentrating on those ninth through twelfth grade students and young adults and letting them know basically how they can become successful in a Louisiana STEM pathway. So if they’re 15 years old and they’re like, I don’t know what I wanna be when I grow up, I’m like, cool, me either. So let’s figure out some options for you. We really want to, reach out to those students and their families and say, this is some of the options that you have.
00:02:28.310 –> 00:02:35.285
These are some of the cool things that you can get involved with. Test it out. See if you like it. Come learn how to code. Come learn how to drive a robot.
00:02:35.445 –> 00:02:47.750
Let’s see if biology is your jam. And basically, once they start to figure out what interests them, then we develop those pathways and really show them how they can get involved and really just kind of build their future going forward.
00:02:47.830 –> 00:02:56.550
Absolutely. We sit in the iHub here at Southeastern, and if you’re hearing anything in the background, it’s our big giant laser printing. Yes. Gladys is her name.
00:02:56.550 –> 00:03:04.205
We’ve named her Gladys. She’s named Gladys. Jordan has a thing for naming all the things here. Electronics need names. Does your does your car have a name?
00:03:04.285 –> 00:03:12.205
Yes, actually. What’s your car name? Her name is Moo Moo because she’s a Subaru. My son actually named her Moo Moo.
00:03:12.205 –> 00:03:25.340
Very I had an old I had Gertrude at one point because I was just you know, she was a little old lady, and she was just kinda getting around, moving it. You know? And she was she was doing great, and I was so proud of her. Mhmm. And loved her.
00:03:25.340 –> 00:03:34.395
My you know, I’m about to name this one as well. She’s she’s old enough that she’s about to get a name too. I think I’m gonna name her Francis after my great grandma. You know? Because she just keeps on kicking, man.
00:03:34.395 –> 00:03:39.435
She is great. So she’s doing a great job. Absolutely. My sweet little Francis. Alright.
00:03:39.435 –> 00:03:48.910
Terren, so we’re gonna brag on you for just a second because Jordan was telling me, like, you’ve done just some some great work. Jordan, tell me about Terren.
00:03:48.990 –> 00:04:22.800
So Terren is probably one of the most genuine, kind hearted persons I’ve ever met. Thank you. She is so multi talented. She has this niche to be able to speak to young people, to to get them excited and involved in things, and Terrence, one of her special gifts is to teach kids and young adults that they can do the hard things. And so she is not only an inspiration, she really is someone that I think we all need to look up to and take a page out of her book.
00:04:23.855 –> 00:04:50.130
But not only is she the STEM manager, and I’ll let her talk about that, at North Shore Tech, she’s an instructor there, and she has also built Washington Parish STEM Center from the ground up. She’ll be able to tell you some really cool things about that too. Just an all around good gal to get to know just truly, she’s truly doing some amazing things for the community and for the kids. So Terri, what do you teach?
00:04:50.975 –> 00:04:59.775
I teach IT and I also have some certifications, leading towards advanced manufacturing. So those two, subjects. I also
00:04:59.695 –> 00:05:01.455
So literally putting it all together.
00:05:01.455 –> 00:05:02.575
Yes. Yeah. Yes.
00:05:03.350 –> 00:05:25.225
I’ve been there six years, going on my sixth year this year. And I’ve been working actually with the Mechatronics Lab for years. So I have the pleasure of now leading that incentive and looking forward to it. We have the Mechatronics Lab, which just features different, programs throughout our school. We have simulators for the heavy equipment.
00:05:25.705 –> 00:06:04.510
We have Z space that covers so many things from anatomy to other, jobs such as IT, advanced manufacturing, we have science, and just so many different things you can do in ZSpace. But we’re out to actually gear towards K through 12, but we’re also centering around those juniors and seniors and getting them on the career path where they need to go. We’re also reaching out to the community. One of the big things that we’re on is environmental stewardship. We’ll also be incorporating that into some of incentives that we’re doing around the five parishes.
00:06:04.830 –> 00:06:14.670
Very good. So we’re looking real weird up here talking about STEM, the three of us, not your typical kind of STEM folk, yeah? Yeah, I would agree, yeah,
00:06:14.965 –> 00:06:23.605
Yeah, but I mean, don’t look like an engineer and I certainly, I don’t think I could code a big program for you, that’s for sure. Terren could, but That’s what I’m saying.
00:06:23.605 –> 00:06:25.525
I’m thinking the girls up They care
00:06:25.525 –> 00:06:26.085
about gaping.
00:06:26.085 –> 00:06:49.785
Yes. Yes. You Jordan, you’re leading a big initiative here though. Because you have and just to brag on you a little bit too, the Honors Program and Southeastern’s North Shore Sim moved into the iHub at at Southeastern in the library on the Second Floor. We have been tracking foot people putting their feet on the ground in here.
00:06:49.785 –> 00:07:03.360
Mhmm. Is like never before, number one Yeah. Because of all the toys that we have in here and because you have just opened up your big heart and said, y’all come play. Because that’s play. And I think that’s what you were supposed to do anyway, right?
00:07:03.360 –> 00:07:08.240
Yes. With all of this stuff is let the people see the things so that they can come and play and figure out what they’re doing.
00:07:08.240 –> 00:07:14.575
How are you gonna know what you’re good at and what you enjoy if you’ve never picked up a piece of equipment and just tried to use it, you know?
00:07:14.575 –> 00:07:17.055
Indeed. Yes, it’s amazing in here. Yes.
00:07:17.055 –> 00:07:17.615
Yes, So
00:07:17.615 –> 00:07:19.055
many things to explore.
00:07:19.135 –> 00:07:31.290
Thank you. Please, you know, bring your people because we want to see your people. So in here, as we look around, we see three d printing. We see VR equipment. That’s virtual reality equipment.
00:07:31.290 –> 00:07:51.185
We also see flight simulators happening. We’ve got big gaming equipment because we’re starting to think in in terms of and we’ve hired actually a student worker to come in and really kind of explore that gaming world here at Southeastern and what that might look like. Mhmm. From putting together a chess team, like an intramural chess team Yeah. All the way up to esports.
00:07:51.185 –> 00:08:07.020
So we’re looking at it in traditional gaming all the way up to big time tech gaming as well. Yes. We’ve got communication stations. We’ve put two together, two separate sets, as well as podcasting area where people can come in and podcast. We had three gentlemen come in yesterday.
00:08:07.615 –> 00:08:16.015
They looked like kids at Christmas. And they came in and they were sitting around the microphone, they were pretending to podcast. And I look at it, I was like, what’s going on? And they’re like
00:08:16.095 –> 00:08:18.095
turning on and podcast. We’re just we’re just over
00:08:18.095 –> 00:08:24.540
here just kind of playing and hanging out. I was like, what? Do you do you want a podcast? And they said, yeah. Can we?
00:08:24.540 –> 00:08:38.220
I said, absolutely. Let me I said, you can either stay out here or go in the private room. They went into into the into the podcast room because I think they were a little nervous for people to hear Mhmm. You know, what how they were sounding or whatnot. So they went and started testing some things.
00:08:38.220 –> 00:08:38.380
Yeah.
00:08:38.615 –> 00:08:43.895
And they’ll be back, I promise. Because when they came out, they started playing VR, they started looking at I’m
00:08:44.535 –> 00:09:00.190
It’s a lot fun in here. It really is. And the other cool thing about the space is it’s so multifaceted in the fact that we have I noticed we have a group of gamers that comes in in between classes, just hang out and play on the computers. Now they’re in there on the smart boards. They’re doing their math homework together.
00:09:00.510 –> 00:09:04.190
Love that. So it’s like favorite story. Gonna do math homework. Awesome. Why don’t
00:09:04.190 –> 00:09:05.070
we do it together?
00:09:05.070 –> 00:09:13.945
Yeah. I love that. And then, also too, we have had, I bring the nerds with me as the honors program is
00:09:13.945 –> 00:09:18.505
located near the center. A beacon glowing out of the iHub that says welcome, nerds.
00:09:18.505 –> 00:09:36.800
I know. And we and you know what? The what’s what’s funny about that is that those students who come in and play games, they see the honors program. They start asking me questions about the honors program, all of a sudden, they wanna get involved in honors classes and really kinda step up their game. And, Terren, Jordan said just a second ago that you teach people to do hard things.
00:09:37.375 –> 00:09:48.015
Tell me about that pouring into the because I feel like that’s what we kinda all do is we look at this and say, you know, this isn’t as untouchable as it feels as it looks like. Right?
00:09:48.015 –> 00:09:54.590
Yes. So, with Washington Parish Gym, which we are a five zero one c three organization based out of Bogalusa, Louisiana.
00:09:54.590 –> 00:09:55.550
Go on, Bogalusa.
00:09:55.550 –> 00:10:19.915
Yes. We had the pleasure last year starting our first robotics team. We actually went to kickoff in January, had three months to get a robot that neither myself or the kids ever had experience doing it. Even though I had that technology background, it was amazing. And we had children who, it changed their life just to get the experience that wasn’t introduced to them.
00:10:20.370 –> 00:10:35.410
So, we taught them from coding the robot to building it, to driving and working as a team. So, the momentum is up. We’re actually kicking off our next season, in January. This will be our second year going to competition.
00:10:36.575 –> 00:11:04.365
She’s not giving those kids and herself enough credit either because not only did they build that robot in three months, but literally straight out the box, every piece, there’s some manufacturing that has to be done, there’s design work that goes into it, And three months in the world of robotics, I’d say that’s what, maybe half the normal build time rate. So not only did they have it up and ready to compete, but they did it twice as fast as probably anyone else could do.
00:11:04.525 –> 00:11:16.960
I love that. So when you’re talking about, STEM projects and partnerships, you two have are are here because you are working on NorthShore’s air show that’s happening
00:11:16.960 –> 00:11:19.520
this weekend. NorthShore. Yes.
00:11:20.160 –> 00:11:36.905
And it’s it is that is an amazing opportunity for kids this weekend to come really explore some equipment. So I’m gonna sit back for a second, take a break, you know, not earn my paycheck, and let y’all talk about what’s happening with the Hammond Regional Air Show this weekend.
00:11:36.905 –> 00:11:40.985
Yeah. Do you wanna go ahead first? You can talk about that mechatronics truck and all the cool things.
00:11:40.985 –> 00:12:06.965
Well, North Shore Technical Community College, we will be there with the mechatronics lab. We’ll actually be right next to Jordan. So we’re looking forward to continuing our good vibes together, and we’re just gonna be out there just showing you what we have to offer and also giving me and my new role a chance to see what else we can bring, to grab on. And this will be my actually first time going to the Hammond Air Show. So, all around it’s gonna be exciting event.
00:12:07.285 –> 00:12:23.520
Yes. So just like Terren said, we’ll be just on the other side of the Mechatronics lab, and we are gonna have everything from VR’s. We have a centrifugal force challenge. We have a mobile AR welder where you can actually put on a helmet, but we’re not technically welding. It’s all in a computer.
00:12:24.480 –> 00:12:56.695
Things like physics football, we’re gonna be launching some rockets. We actually are gonna have our, industrial engineering technology group out there showing off their three d printing skills and answering questions about their program. We also will have our sea perch robots out there. So the kids will be able to drive some underwater robots and also find out more information about, and I’m gonna drop this really quick, the free Sea Perch robotics program that you can get your kids involved in with if you’re a teacher or a community member. So find me out there and I can tell you more about how you can get some free robots going.
00:12:56.935 –> 00:13:08.535
Love Yes, I had a pleasure of actually joining that program and we do see perch, so it’s amazing. So if you are a teacher or a community, leader organization, please reach out to Jordan for more information.
00:13:09.250 –> 00:13:16.130
Very good. So kids walk up to you this weekend while you’re there. What happens? You’re gonna have student workers there with you as well, right?
00:13:16.130 –> 00:13:30.485
Yeah, we’ll have student workers out there nerding it out with us, as we say. We’re gonna have tons of volunteers. This would not be possible without the amazing people in the community coming to volunteer. Including Southeastern students. Southeastern students, some of the local high schools are volunteering.
00:13:30.485 –> 00:13:34.885
We even had Southeastern alumni and some North Shore Tech alumni coming out to help as well.
00:13:35.045 –> 00:13:35.765
That’s amazing.
00:13:35.765 –> 00:13:54.845
Yeah. So basically, there’s something for everybody. There’s things from, bounce houses and coloring for the littles. There’s more advanced stuff, like the mechatronics lab and the VR’s for the older kids. I mean, honestly, most of the time the parents get a little antsy and jump the line and wanting to get in and learn how to do some of this stuff.
00:13:54.845 –> 00:14:11.170
So it’s all in good fun. Hammond Regional Arts Center will be out there with us. They’re doing aeronautical design. So I was actually looking at their stuff yesterday. They have all those cool rulers and those white pencils with the drafting, the blue drafting paper so you could design your own aircraft.
00:14:11.170 –> 00:14:18.005
So it’s gonna be a lot of fun and there’s definitely something for everybody. I can’t wait. So I’m sure you’re gonna be taking video me Absolutely.
00:14:18.005 –> 00:14:34.560
The next time we talk because we’re, you know, the goal of this show is to go back with video very soon. Mhmm. Right? So, that is that is something that I’m I’m ready for and wanting to do some live videos with Facebook and whatnot. So we need to bring that video so that the next time I talk to you, you can give us some examples of what happened.
00:14:34.560 –> 00:14:49.745
I sure will. Very good. Very good. So what is what is the future of NorthShore of Hammond’s NorthShore STEM projects? You know, Southeastern between Southeastern, NorthShore Technical Community College, the high schools that y’all partner with.
00:14:49.745 –> 00:14:52.785
What is the what’s y’all’s vision on this?
00:14:53.105 –> 00:15:42.990
Honestly, the more connecting, the better. I think the biggest thing for us and what motivates us the month the most is getting students to see and make them aware of all of the possibilities that there is in this Louisiana STEM workforce, that a lot of these jobs that are out there can turn into careers very easily and there’s multiple ways to get there. And that, you know, whether it be a four year university that, you know, we’d love to have them at 10 Southeastern or one of the five North Shore, technical community college campuses, there’s even things like what Terrence teaching with those, coding certifications. Like, there’s multiple path ways to become successful in this state. And I think that’s our biggest thing is making sure that we connect young people to ways to be successful and the STEM workforce is the is one of the best ways.
00:15:43.375 –> 00:15:43.775
That it
00:15:43.775 –> 00:15:56.095
is accessible. Yes. Is. Absolutely. Now, Terren, when you’re teaching your students and you start seeing that light bulb go off, what are what changes are you seeing?
00:15:56.095 –> 00:16:05.990
And Jordan, you as well. Mhmm. And these students who come in and say, oh, I can do that. What does that broaden for them as far as their own futures are concerned?
00:16:06.150 –> 00:16:42.110
They’re able to see things that they never thought in a million years that they’ll be able to do from teaching AI, artificial intelligence, from coding Python, from just basic help desk support. Right now with IT, that job can be either in person or remote. So seeing things that in areas where there are not that many jobs, that hey, with these skills you can work around the world remotely from home and building on customer service skills and things that they need. So we don’t just center around technology or advanced manufacturing, we give them all the skills they need to be successful.
00:16:42.110 –> 00:17:01.205
Right. I think one of the other things that we kind of pride ourselves on too is reminding them that, you know, if you are interested in say IT, that there are so many industries that you wouldn’t think would be a computer science or IT background. Hospitals need IT. Restaurant chains need IT. Everybody needs IT.
00:17:01.205 –> 00:17:32.670
Just like in the medical field, I mean, have some of these larger manufacturing facilities in Louisiana. You have some of these just different industries. They have medical professionals that work there. So I think getting the kids to see that there’s so many opportunities outside of a typical box of, oh, if I’m interested in nursing, I need to work at a hospital. It’s like, no, you could be, you know, several different, you could work at several different companies that don’t have anything to do with healthcare, that they need healthcare professionals, you know.
00:17:33.150 –> 00:17:56.495
So I think that’s so important. It’s like, oh, wait, I never thought about that. But yeah, if I am working for an internet company, they do need, you know, drafters and things that can lay out the infrastructure because we all are gonna need internet, right? And especially in our communities of internet’s growing, Yes. You I mean, that’s one of the things with the fiber optic that we see is, oh, sorry, a drone just fell, squirrel.
00:17:56.750 –> 00:17:59.710
We have we have some students in here playing with the indoor drones.
00:17:59.710 –> 00:18:02.830
Robots are happening and Yeah. Things are going
00:18:02.830 –> 00:18:03.230
all around.
00:18:03.230 –> 00:18:03.470
You know,
00:18:03.470 –> 00:18:13.715
if you work for an Internet company, you know, drafters, electricians, it takes more than just someone who’s a fiber optic technician. So just different things like that.
00:18:14.035 –> 00:18:21.715
Indeed. And she’s pointing at that thing and like making it go around. So that’s that’s super fun. Yeah. So she’s like telling it what to do over there.
00:18:21.715 –> 00:18:24.515
We have our own little mini air show happening because it just made one of them flip.
00:18:25.030 –> 00:18:33.430
That is hilarious. We do. I mean, it’s happening right here in the in the iHub. The the robots are flying around right now. So, it’s real.
00:18:33.430 –> 00:18:41.095
The Jetsons are happening right here in this library. The and, like, we have our little dog robot. He is so cool. Love him. What’s his name?
00:18:41.095 –> 00:18:44.535
I forget. His name is Patrick. Right? And then we have Sage.
00:18:44.695 –> 00:18:47.255
Amber, you gotta be nice to the robots. I know.
00:18:47.255 –> 00:18:51.815
I know. Sage the robot. Is And a comes in, and she says, I’m here.
00:18:51.815 –> 00:18:52.215
I’m here.
00:18:52.470 –> 00:19:05.190
I love her. She is fantastic. And when know, it’s exciting, I think, as a as a professor to look around and see this happen. She is laughing her tail off with that drone right now. Yeah.
00:19:05.190 –> 00:19:06.950
I think he’s actually chasing her with it.
00:19:06.950 –> 00:19:16.015
So I think that’s, oh, okay. Gotcha. Gotcha. So we’re we’ve got a little flirtatious drone happening right there. So love it.
00:19:16.095 –> 00:19:35.170
But so all of this is happening. Terren talked about also the the relationships that people also have to to develop along the way. Right? That’s because and the thing that brought that to my mind is that we’ve got some science professors here who invite their communication professors in and say, hey, you need to okay. These guys can do this thing.
00:19:35.615 –> 00:19:56.150
Now you need to tell them how to tell people that they can do these things. Right. Right? So we come in and we chat with them about, you know, kind of having explaining things in a way that doesn’t make you feel untouchable. You know, that makes it feel real for other You’re talking about sharing, you know, telling people that they can teach AI.
00:19:56.230 –> 00:20:05.705
And I’m sure that part of your conversations there is that you’ve got to make it, you’ve got to make it attainable. Yes. So tell me a little bit about that, Terrence.
00:20:05.865 –> 00:20:31.205
So, we try, at NCCC, we try to meet students where they are. So, my first assessment is seeing what they know and then what they don’t know. And we evaluate mid semester, end of the semester to go on to the next semester. So being in Washington Parish and teaching in the Sullivan campus, the IT program was actually gone for years. So this is the first semester back.
00:20:31.205 –> 00:20:52.600
So making the schedule where it works around their schedule. We have all ages. So building that, making it obtainable for even older adults to be able to understand AI and how it’s changing and how it’s our future. It’s here now and it’s only gonna get more advanced and just making sure they have the skills that they need.
00:20:52.680 –> 00:20:59.345
Very good, Very good. Now you’ve also got some initiatives coming up in November. Correct?
00:20:59.345 –> 00:21:26.235
Yes. We do have, Washington Yes. Parish It’s, also in partnership with Southern University Agricultural Center and Faith Temple Church based out of Independence. We have a tri parish, incentive going, where we’re going through St. Helena, Tangipaho, and Washington Parish, and we’re bringing all K-twelve students together to give them that STEM experience so that they actually know what STEM is, what careers are out there in STEM.
00:21:26.635 –> 00:21:40.920
Our next, I’m sorry, our first, Expo will be November 22 at Faith Temple Church in Independence, and it’s from nine to twelve. And we’re asking everyone to come out. We’ll be going around to local schools, local businesses, and just getting the word out.
00:21:41.000 –> 00:21:46.000
Right. You’re gonna come and talk to me a little bit more in-depth as as this thing comes together in the next month or so. Yes.
00:21:47.080 –> 00:21:47.640
I’m looking forward
00:21:47.640 –> 00:21:59.785
to it. Just ahead of that, I think we’re gonna show on maybe the twentieth or twenty first in November to make sure that people are reminded of exactly what’s happening and all of the activities that they’re going to be able to participate in that day.
00:21:59.785 –> 00:22:13.490
Yes. And not only with STEM, we’re going to have different career, different fields being represented. We’re also going to have, community organizations out showing what they have to offer. It’s centered around more than STEM.
00:22:14.370 –> 00:22:21.305
I’m going. All right. Well, Jordan, talk to me in January. You actually have some robotics stuff coming here. Oh, yeah.
00:22:21.305 –> 00:22:31.560
You’ve got science fairs coming up. Can you tell me about can you just tease a little bit of that? And, of course, we’ll get you back on to talk about the details of it as it as it gets closer, but tease me.
00:22:31.560 –> 00:22:48.375
Yeah. So in January, January, I’m gonna talk about the program first because I can’t remember the date off the top of my head because you know, up until the end of the year. Right? It’s insane. Anyhoo, but in January, we are having our first ever VEX v five.
00:22:48.695 –> 00:23:02.320
It’s robotic competition. It’s a regional competition. And, of course, we had to make it a super fun theme, and it’s gonna be Roomy’s Robo Rampage. I know, I’m very excited. Speaking of AI, Taryn, it actually helped me come up with my logo.
00:23:02.240 –> 00:23:16.405
It was really cool, super cool logo. So that’s actually gonna be on all the volunteer t shirts if you wanna volunteer. But that event yeah. Right? It’s gonna be January 17 right here at Pennington Center on Southeastern’s campus.
00:23:16.405 –> 00:23:30.640
We’re thinking anywhere from 24 to 30 high school teams are gonna participate. So anything from spectators to volunteers, we’re gonna be looking for. Come and cheer these kids on. It’s a lot of fun. It’s gonna be exciting.
00:23:30.640 –> 00:23:52.285
It’s gonna be just it’s entertaining too. I mean, it’s just a really cool event to see. We do have our science fair coming up in February, so that, information can be found on our website. And then in March, speaking of sea perch, sea perch, I’m putting that out in the world, sea perch. If you have questions, we are having our sea perch regional competition in March.
00:23:52.285 –> 00:23:57.405
I just don’t know what that is. It’s really cool. I can show you. We actually have the robots right over there ready to load up. Okay.
00:23:58.100 –> 00:24:07.540
The kids actually can build the kits. It it all comes in a box. Everything you need, even down to the tools that you need to do it. The PVC cutters are in the box. That’s amazing.
00:24:07.540 –> 00:24:08.660
You say sea perch,
00:24:08.660 –> 00:24:09.460
I think fish.
00:24:09.460 –> 00:24:16.615
I know. Well, they kinda look like a very strange fish once you build them. But, yes, everything that you need to build it and compete are all in one box.
00:24:16.615 –> 00:24:19.815
Love it. And hopefully, Washington Parish then would be competing this year.
00:24:19.815 –> 00:24:20.295
So I’m
00:24:20.295 –> 00:24:20.855
looking forward to
00:24:20.855 –> 00:24:23.415
it. I’m I’m hearing that as a promise. Let’s make that happen
00:24:23.415 –> 00:24:29.750
for sure. I’m thinking so. And we’ll be there. Excellent. Look at that already at one school sign I mean, one organization
00:24:29.670 –> 00:24:35.990
I’m signed successful already. Alright. Fantastic. Thank you, ladies, for coming to share Yeah. With me today.
00:24:36.390 –> 00:24:54.820
I am so excited to have NorthShore represented all of the STEM things that we do. Southeastern, NorthShore Technical Community College, all of the high schools that participate, we love them. The universities that are participating as well, Southeastern, Southern, all of the ones that are coming together to really make this a great thing for our students
00:24:54.980 –> 00:24:55.460
Mhmm.
00:24:55.460 –> 00:24:59.300
And give them opportunities to do the hard things. Right, Denise?
00:24:59.300 –> 00:25:02.740
Yes. And thank you so much for having me. I look forward to talking to you.
00:25:02.740 –> 00:25:24.398
Indeed. Indeed. Join us again on Thursday and Friday at 09:00 right here on KSLU’s 90 point 9 FM, Tthe Lion. We are at The Lion’s Roundtable and talking to community experts, community volunteers, as well as representatives who can tell us about all things Tangipahoa Parish and the surrounding areas. So join us again.
00:25:24.478 –> 00:25:26.158
I’m Amber Narro. Y’all have a great day.
