HAMMOND – In honor of Veterans Day, the Southeastern Louisiana University Office of Military and Veteran Success is hosting a week-long slate of events to honor the men and women who have sacrificed for our country.
“We are so excited to kick off Veterans Week in Hammond,” said Military and Veteran Success Director Emily Anthony. “We have a variety of events planned and hope that you and your families will join us.”
First up is a Military Appreciation Football Game on Nov. 9, at 6 p.m., in Strawberry Stadium. Veterans will be honored and are invited to join Lion Nation as the Lions take on Northwestern State. Veterans and military members can enjoy free admission to the game by showing their military or veteran ID. A table will be outside of Gate 2 for ID check and ticket distribution.
Next up are two events on Nov. 11. A Veterans Day Ceremony at the Student Union flagpole is scheduled at 9 a.m., and a free Veterans Day Concert will take place in Pottle Auditorium at 7 p.m. The Bella Vocca and Concert Choir will present the concert featuring eight pieces, and appetizers and refreshments will be available starting at 6 p.m.
Veterans Night at Blackened Brew, located at 14256 W. Club Deluxe Rd. in Hammond, is scheduled Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. A private room has been reserved for veterans and active military members, who will enjoy complimentary appetizers.
Rounding out the week is a Military Appreciation Lady Lions Basketball Game Nov. 15, at 6 p.m., in the University Center. Veterans and active military members will receive free admission to the Lions versus Southern Mississippi basketball game.
